1. Give Roman numeral symbols for bars 1-20 of this piece. Assume that there are either 1
or 2 chords per bar. Decide which notes, if any, are nonchord tones. (20 pts.)
2. There is a passage in bars 21-24 that could be termed either a modulation, or a
tonicization. What is the tonal center of this passage? (10 pts.)

• Using the chord symbols in this simplified arrangement of the tune, find examples of
different kinds of ii-V or ii-V-I progressions in the primary key and in other keys -mark
them on the music, showing the “tonic” of each progression. (10 pts.)
• Find harmonic progressions in the piece that can be examples of tritone substitution.
Mark them on the music, showing the name of the G that has been replaced. (10 pts.)
• This song is meant to be based on a 12-bar blues pattern. How are the “blues” measures
in the song different from the 12-bar blues pattern described in our textbook? (10 pts.)
