Mycelium and architecture

Assemble a minimum of ten (10) relevant literature items (I have chosen the resources and will be attaching them )
and generate reviews for each, it is important to include:
– Bibliographic resource information
– Summarized scope of the writing
– Summarized description of the central focus,
argument, or intellectual agenda
– Key aspects of how the work relates to your
emerging research agenda.

SCOPE OF EXISTING, PUBLISHED KNOWLEDGE
To quote Groat and Wang, a literature review refers to
“….a body of information, existing in a wide variety of
stored formats, that has conceptual relevance for a
particular topic of inquiry” and is gathered together such
that “a topic of inquiry can be competently defined and
addressed.”
Nothing is thought in an intellectual vacuum. Whatever
your specific interest may be, it is doubtless that someone,
somewhere has commented, framed, articulated and
proposed something similar, and you should endeavor to
seek this material out.
All inquiry demands to be substantiated within the
context of current knowledge not only as a mark of
legitimacy but also as inspiration for the possibility of
innovation within the field. Ask yourself who is already
involved in the discourse of ideas, themes, theories,
philosophies, and practices, that resonate with your
interest area, and what are they thinking, writing and
publishing?

Steps in the Review:
1. Identify your top choice of subject matter from
the preliminary statements of initial thinking
following input from class discussion.
2. Identify key words to aid in locating information
pertaining to your research statement.
3. Search primary libraries for holdings – books,
journals and especially digital databases and
conference proceedings.
4. Locate and evaluate multiple potential sources
that resonate with your subject matter for
preliminary review.
5. Expand your search while eliminating less
relevant materials. Be sure to check the
bibliographies of strongly related sources for
further references.
6. Read the materials, draft summaries of the most
pertinent sources and develop a hierarchy of
relevant material.
7. Organize the information into appropriate
categories as you refine your research agenda.
The Library
This ancient institution remains the most effective
location for the serious researcher. Retrieving source
material will be crucial to your review process and the
librarians are there to help get materials into your hands

as immediately as possible. To search architectural
journals for articles, go to the Avery Index as well as
several other journal-based databases that can put
digitized published materials right at your fingertips. In the
context of our remote learning environment and current
library services, do utilize the librarians to help you find
what you need.

(Approach)
There is that inseparable bond between humans and nature. Nature is described as anything that
supports life by giving it birth and restoring power to its surrounding. Humans create design
which coalescence with nature when disbelief is suspended. It occurs through the creation and
development of culture. Mycology of architecture offers that connection, withholding various
possibilities of growing literally anywhere. In the current world that we live in we are forced to
change our ways of thinking towards the way we live. As it has caused catastrophes and is only
getting worse through time. The intention is to experiment and create a product that is living and
use that relationship to mend with the natural world that would benefit from living organisms,
through envisioning spaces that can breathe. Mycelium can be used as more than one thing, as a structure or a decorative element and can grow literaly anywhere. With that man can regain critical and creative function that has been lost. This is used as tool to allow some exploration to the human body. Defining what that means to the construction of spaces. This thesis will approach the idea of re-designing and redefine cemeteries. Exploring new rituals, understanding various cultures and religons. Most importantly, understanding significance of life and death and how is that translated into mycelium and architecture.
