Social work with clients is based on the person-in-environment perspective. Assessment of communities (clients) begins with the engagement process and includes a community assessment. Using the information from readings, lectures and this format, identify and describe a community/neighborhood of your choice. You can choose the neighborhood in which you reside, the neighborhood where your field practicum is located, or a neighborhood you are interested in learning more about. You will provide background data on the community and community demographics. The paper should include a thorough and critical discussion of the historical nature of the neighborhood/community. The paper will also include an analysis of perceived wealth, cultural assets, and capacities as well as needs and current problems facing the community. Throughout the paper, please use course materials, discussions, and outside research to engage with the meaning and implication of this assessment. This is not meant to be a simple report on a community, but rather a critical assessment of the state and hopeful future of the community.
