Normative Discontent: How Did We Get Here?

The whole inbstruction and description is in the file attached.

“Normative discontent” is the term used in the body image field to describe how most women (and more and more men) experience body dissatisfaction (Striegel-Moore, McAvay, & Rodin, 1986). In this paper, you will reflect on the theories we have learned about in class as well as your training in your own discipline to describe how and why normative discontent exists.

The theories we have learned about in class: Cognitive-Behavioral, Sociocultural, and Feminist, Biological, Developmental, and Evolutionary Influences on Body Image.

As outlined in the syllabus, you will explore the phenomenon of normative discontent from three theoretical perspectives. At least one perspective should be from this course, and at least one perspective should be from outside the course. Preferably, this will come from training within your major or minor. If you major is psychology, you can of course use another psychological theory, but it should not be one of the theories we have discussed in this class.
