Option 1: Institutional xenophobia, classism and racism
Our discussions in class have demonstrated that xenophobia, racism and classism have been institutionalized over history, and that these constructs should not be thought of merely in terms of individual biases. Drawing on our discussions of history, identify at least one example each of institutional xenophobia, racism and classism (some of the examples might address more than one form of discrimination), explain what it was and how it was discriminatory. (Note: you need a minimum of three examples in total; drawn from different readings.)
Option 2: Education in a multicultural society
Schools are unhealthy places for the development of healthy gender identity.
For the statement above, say whether you agree or disagree with the claim and support your answer. Your explanation, regardless of whether you agree or disagree about the relative safety of schools, needs to consider three examples each of a) sexism (or gender bias) that you found most compelling or personally meaningful. For each example, identify what schools (i.e. teachers, students, principals) can do to enhance the type of education desired in a multicultural society.
