For this assignment you will write a report/essay on a topic of your choosing related to this course.
Reports should be 8-10 pages in length plus: (1) a title page; (2) one page of references and (3) up to 2
additional pages of figures and figure legends. The report should give a clear account of the
fundamental chemical, biochemical and/or structural aspects of the topic. Information sources should
include original papers as well as review articles and books and not rely on websites for information to
a significant degree. The report should demonstrate an understanding of the chemical and biochemical
principles used in reaching conclusions and not merely state the conclusions.
Ensure that your essay/report properly references your sources of information. If a website was used to
determine a piece of information, indicate which website. If a journal article was used, include a
reference for the article.
The essay/report (100 marks) will be due in three stages: (1) Your choice of topic is due by 17
November 11:59 pm (5 marks); (2) an annotated bibliography is due by 24 November 11:59 pm (10
marks); the report/essay is due on 7 December 11:59 pm (85 marks).
All parts of the assignment will be submitted on eClass.
The annotated bibliography will consist of 3 references you are planning to use for your essay/report
with up to three sentences for each reference describing why that reference is useful. This will be
submitted as a single page in eClass in pdf or word format (no title page needed and single spaced is
fine for the annotated bibliography).
Additionally:
• Use Arial size 11 font
• Do not use contractions or abbreviations (fig. vs. figure; don’t vs. do not).
• 1″ margins are sufficient, not larger
• Double space.
• Feel free to use headings in organizing your essay/report
• Figures should be clear, not blurry bitmapped smudges. They should be large enough to
easily convey the information and read
• Refer to your figures in the text.
• Be consistent in your writing style, i.e. use Celsius or C but not both.
• Be sure to run through a spell and grammar check to catch typos.
• Number your pages
