During your Bachelor of Nursing you have likely faced many
challenges – juggling work, life, study, placement, and not to mention
doing all this during a global pandemic! There are so many things that
you have achieved through this degree and some areas you may feel
need further exploration as you go into your final placements and
whilst you continue your lifelong learning journey. Unfortunately after
you complete your degree the challenges are not over, however we
hope that you feel equipped to facwwhat lies ahead and you may
have some creative suggestions for how we can invest in nursing.
This year’s International Nurses’ Day theme was “A Voice to Lead:
Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global health” focusing
on the need to protect, support and invest in the nursing profession to
strengthen health systems around the world.
“Nurses have suffered tremendously throughout the pandemic. They have
been unnecessarily exposed to the virus, faced attacks from the public,
suffered from extreme workloads, and continue to be underpaid and
undervalued. If go vernments continue to put off investing in the health
workforce, it will be to the detriment of health systems everywh ere. There
is no health without a health workforce! ” (ICN President Dr Pamela Cipriano, 2021)
