In a well-organized essay of a recommended
minimum of 1500 words (three
double-spaced pages typed in 12-point Times Roman font), identify and explain
the Oedipal pattern and the varying “instructive” implications of its manifestation
in the following five works: either the Adam and Eve or the Cain and Abel
episode of the Old Testament, Oedipus the
King, “Medea,” Morte D’Arthur, and
Othello. Please note that this essay exam, like all
others that have been given in this class this semester, is primarily a test of
your knowledge and grasp of concepts that have been taught in this class this
semester and that it is a test as well of your basic skills in composition and
text-based analysis. The further
recommendation is that you devote at least one “chunky” support paragraph to
each of the five aforementioned works and that your paper include a descriptive
definition of the Oedipal pattern as that pattern has been descriptively
defined in this class. Your papers will
be graded accordingly.
This paper has to be on Oedipus the king, Adam and Eve in Genesis 1-3, Medea, death of Arthur, and Othello. The paper has to explain the Oedipal patterns of all five stories.
