Op Ed- on the benefits of electric cars

What makes you mad? Want to get something off your chest? Write a 700-850 word Editorial/Op-Ed on something that you are angry about. For example, it can be about a current event, topic, or controversy that involves a local, national, or international issue or controversy in the news. It can be about something newsworthy on campus, or a topic of concern to college students and young people. You can write your Op-Ed in the third person or first person, or a combination of the two. You can use personal anecdotes or relate your personal experiences to support your argument. You should emphasize background facts, research, statistics, quotes, and persuasive argument. I would encourage the use of quotes, either from major news sources or original quotes that you can obtain from local experts (say ‘in a personal interview, John Smith told me…). Strive for a strong lead and conclusion, use appropriate transitions, write with passion and conviction, and make sure that your Op-Ed has a logical flow.

Please double-space your papers and keep your editorial within the specified 700-850 words or I will deduct points. The first draft of this assignment is due when you come to next Thursday’s class, September 8 th. Email your rough draft to me by cutting and pasting the text to the body of the email and using an attached Word File. If possible, please try to email your rough draft to me by next Wednesday night September 7 by 8 p.m. so that I can get a head start on critiquing your rough drafts. Failure to turn in the rough draft on time by 8:30 a.m. next Thursday will result in a loss of grade points. Also, please bring four printed copies of your Op-Ed with you next Thursday for critiquing by others in the class. In order to have me read and critique your rough draft, you need to come to class next Thursday. The final version of your Op-Ed is due in two weeks on Thursday, September 15 by email and by printing them out. Failure to turn in the final version on time by 8:30 a.m. on the 15th will result in a loss of grade points.
