Your
task for this assignment is to trace an image, symbol, or theme through two
separate short stories. How does each story use their respective image, symbol,
or theme? To what ends? How are the stories’ uses different? How are they the
same? You will be limited to selecting stories that you have not already used as the basis for a
paper.[1]
In addition to the suggested reading below, you may also want to refresh your
knowledge of literary elements like plot, character, setting, point of view,
symbolism, theme, style, tone, and irony. You will see many of these terms
explained and discussed in the index to our course textbook.
i.
Write a variety of
sentence structures (simple, compound, complex) consistent with the conventions
of American English.
ii.
Write a unified,
coherent 5 – 7 paragraph essay, using methods of development suited to the
topic.
iii.
Write an essay in response to a reading,
demonstrating literal comprehension and critical thinking.

Be between 500 – 650 words long.
4.
