DIRECTIONS: Participate in and Reflect on Cognitive Testing
The purpose of this activity is for you to understand what it is like to take a cognitive task and imagine what it might be like for children to take these tests. This website Links to an external site. has many different types of cognitive tasks and it describes the purpose of each task. You will need to do two tasks and then
report back on your experience. Most of the tasks require using
a computer, but there are two that can be done with a touchscreen (see below). For full credit also comment on ONE of your classmates’ posts.
After you complete the two cognitive tasks reflect on your experience by posting the following information on the discussion forum:
Which tasks did you complete?
What did you understand about their purpose?
How did you feel while taking the test? How did you feel if you made a mistake? How did you feel at the end?
How were the two tasks you did different from each other?
Anything else about your experience?
Directions for Accessing The Tasks
These cognitive tasks require using a computer. Choose ONE of the tasks from the first group and ONE of the tasks from the second group (of course you are welcome to do more than two if you like this stuff). Tasks take about 5 minutes depending on how you do.
When you get to the website Links to an external site. you can read about the task. Then scroll down to the “RUN DEMO” section and click the link that says “click here to run a demo”. The instructions will be in the task itself.
