This assignment is a short, easy first rough draft of your final paper…which will be due next week! This semester is fast!!
The final paper will be five – eight pages, with four sources used in-text AND listed on your Works Cited page. It should be personal essay: a balance of your own stories and opinions in the first person, research on the subject you’ve chosen to cover, and reflection between the stories and research. It should in other words fulfill the Five Hallmarks we read about: an apparent obvious subject and a deeper meaning, good storytelling/narrative, timeless subject as its overall meaning, reflection or thinking on your part included in the work, and the craft of writing well.
This week only the draft is due. Please type up all you know already that you hope to include. This might already include:
interviews
research
the reason you choose this subject
your opinion on the subject
your experiences around this topic (past moments, memories, friends’ experiences)
what you’ve found in your research
an informal Works Cited page with whatever research you’ve already found on your topic.
This rough draft may not be the final length yet, of course. This is a first step. Pull together everything you already have, and the writing work and research you can do this week. This way, by the time we get to next week, you’ll hopefully be at least halfway done, if not more.
