LEADERSHIP ESSAY:
Take some time to engage in quiet introspection. There are no
required questions to answer. Below are sample questions you may
adapt and use; be sure to do work commensurate to an upper-level
student.
• What have YOU come to believe that leadership is?
• What kinds of qualities, attitudes, and traits do you look for in a
leader?
• How well do you model these in your own life?
• Describe specific times and events in your life where you have
demonstrated these qualities.
• Rate yourself as a leader.
• What areas do you want to improve in your leadership this
semester?
After considering your thoughts and perspective on leadership,
you should format your essay using the following:
SUBHEADINGS
1. What is Leadership?
2. Qualities, Attitudes, and Traits
3. Modeling Leadership Behavior and Actions
4. My Rating as a Leader
5. Areas to Improve This Semester
Assignments are to be formatted with one-inch margins on all
sides and double-spaced.
• Use only 12-point.
• Assignments presented in any other format will have an
automatic reduction of one letter grade for the assignment.
• Avoid the use of first person in your writing. Instead, use “This
writer believes…” or “This researcher found…” to indicate your
opinions.
• Avoid contractions in formal writing.
• Do not begin sentences with “So,” “But,” “However,” “And.”
• Do not plagiarize. I reserve the right to use the Turnitin software to
check for plagiarism.
• When using outside sources, use a sourcing format consistently
within the paper (APA, MLA, Turabian).
• Use spell check and grammar check – spelling errors cost 5 points
each.
• Do not write in a “familiar” tone. All of your papers should be
written in an academic context, even when your opinion is
expressed.
• This is an upper-level course and assignments will be graded
accordingly. It is expected that the student will use proper English
grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Spelling and grammatical
errors will have an adverse effect on assignment grades.
• Assignments received after the due date will be reduced by 10
points per day.
• ALL ASSIGNMENTS should be submitted via the Assignment
Tab located on the opening page of Blackboard unless otherwise
indicated. After you click the “ Submit Button” you will see an
exclamation point (!) under the assignment in your gradebook.
• Use your last name as the first word in the title when saving Files
College work must be typed, double-spaced, with indents for
new paragraphs, and 12 point font (Arial, Calibri, Cambria,
or Times Roman are the easiest to read)
• Do not insert blank lines between paragraphs.
• Points will be deducted for failure to utilize proper style for
graduate assignments.
