perspective in relation to young’s “should writers use they own english?”

In this project, you will situate yourself, your experience, and your perspective in relation to Young’s “Should Writers Use They Own English?” In your 750-1000 word written response, use Young’s project as a framework for reflecting on a personal anecdote about rebellion in education. By placing yourself in conversation with Young, you will strive to make use of “Should Writers Use They Own English?” to explain, complicate, or reconsider your experiences with and perspectives on rebellion in writing and/or education. You might also explore meaningful gaps in Young’s project by considering what in your experience might not be explained by Young’s writing, or situations in which his concept of code meshing might not work as a viable solution.

This writing task will require you to select relevant moments from Young’s writing to use as a framework for reflecting on your personal anecdote about experiences of rebellion in writing and/or academic settings. You might choose to utilize a written anecdote from the first week of class or develop a new anecdote for the purposes of this project. Taken together, your selection of relevant moments from both Young’s text and your experience will require you to assess the possible uses and limitations of Young’s essay as a framework for your reflection.
