PHI 100: DB# 10 Descartes/Epistemological principles

You need to read, interpret, articulate, and relate what Descartes is getting at by two epistemological claims listed below.

In the first paragraph of Part IV in Discourse on Method, Descartes states when doing his philosophical meditation he: “reject[ed] as absolutely false everything in which I could imagine the least doubt, in order to see whether, after this process, something in my beliefs remained that was entirely indubitable” (18). He then states in paragraph three that he: “could take as a general rule that the things we conceive very clearly and distinctly are all true, but that there is some difficultly in properly discerning which are those that we distinctly conceive” (19).

In your own words, articulate the epistemological principles that Descartes is laying out and relate them to one another.

Don’t use dictionary definitions; instead, rely on your experience to develop as clear definitions as possible.
