This essay should be NO MORE than 1,500 words, including footnotes and
excluding bibliography.
Double spacing, Times New Roman (or some other sensible font), size 12.
Given what we know about the nature of self-control, to what extent, if any, are
addicts morally responsible?
The whole point of the essay is to convince the reader of a particular claim. Make that
main claim extremely clear and explicit. This is the thesis statement.
I will upload the reference for the book, the chapter, and the slides on this information.
If you use direct quotes (note, that you don’t need to), you should always explain what
you think the author of the quote is saying.
Example
(1) Introduction. Just a paragraph outlining the essay. Make the thesis statement
explicit. “I will argue that…”
(2) Brief Stage setting. Explain the issue above that the paper will be discussing. Don’t need to say
more than is necessary to support your thesis.
(3) Exposition of the material that will be addressed.
(4) the original point. E.g. the objection to some argument. Try to fully develop
the response. Are there obvious criticisms of the point that should be discussed and
responded to (e.g. consider counter-responses)?
(5) Conclusion. Just remind the reader what has been covered in the essay. “In this essay, I
argued that…”
I have other attachments if needed.
