Does Hohwy and Palmer’s approach to social cognition yield any good way to handle the problem of other minds? (See page 171 in particular, but consider the larger approach they are taking in the whole article, as you respond.)
Whichever position you take on a question, state it clearly and defend it! You will be evaluated on the quality of your argument (see rubric), so you need to consider possible objections to your thesis from the other side, and respond to them. For example, if you think that Hohwy and Palmer’s theory makes the problem of other minds unsolvable, then consider objections from the perspective of a defender of theirs; if you think that they actually do have a great path forward to solving the problem, then consider objections from the perspective of someone who thinks that they cannot handle the problem of other minds.
Any time you quote material verbatim or paraphrase it closely, you do need to indicate the source (indicating just a page number is fine if you are only discussing the target article for the question you have chosen). Whenever you quote or paraphrase the text, do go on to use your own words to explain what you are quoting or referring to: don’t let quoting or summarizing take the place of your own thought. You are not expected to do secondary research beyond our assigned texts, but if you do consult any additional sources, please do cite them properly in any standard citation format (e.g. author/date, or APA, or MLA) and include a bibliography at the end (you do not need to include a bibliography if you only cite our assigned texts).
