Philosophy phy of Education

To begin:
Read Philosophies, Philosophies Addendum and pp. 38-43 Chapter 2.
Decide on one, two but no more than two philosophies that will be the foundation of your
personal philosophy of ed. Ideally it would be mainly one with a bit of another. Try not to have
a “laundry list” of philosophies that will become the foundation of your personal philosophy of
ed. Having multiple philosophies dilutes not enhances your philosophic statement.
Read about this philosophy(s) in Chapter 2 and in any of the addendums
Formulate your initial philosophy of ed based on this info. What is your philosophy in relation to
the various philosophy(s) that are represented? This is your opportunity to share out . . .
“My philosophy of education is . . . ” What are your ideas? How do these ideas reflect your
practice?!
The initial philosophy of ed is usually 3-4 pages. You need to refer to the required readings in
the module. First, in this kind of academic writing you do NOT use direct quotes. Indirect quotes
and paraphrasing are used. Next you do not need to cite specifically the readings nor provide a
reference list. However, for example, you need to refer to specific readings using this kind of
format: According the doc Philosophies of Ed Addendum . . .
For each philosophy of ed there is at least one major person who either formulated it or is/was a
strong advocate for it. Include some info about this person and her/his ideas.
You are required to address explicitly the following questions as part of your philosophy of ed:
What should be taught?
Who should decide what should be taught?
Why should this material be taught?
How should this material be taught?
What should the teacher’s role be?
What should the student’s role be?
