For this assignment, I want you to pick a social issue that we have in the present that we also had throughout the 20th century. Once you have your topic, pick at least one major event that happened between 1930 and 1980 and at least one that happened between 1981 and 2015 relative to your topic for historical analysis (there should be at least 20 years between your two events). Your project should address the following:
1. The historical details of your past and recent events (description, impact, principal figures, etc.).
2. Explore the links between your two events and how they relate to today (2016 to the present).
3. Your own analysis: explore the evolution of your social issue based on your chosen events.
4. Your own analysis: how does the history of your social issue inform our understanding of that issue in the present?
SOURCES:
1. At least six sources minimum.
2. At least two primary sources.
3. No Wikipedia or Google, please!
4. Pop culture (songs, movies, literature, etc.) can count as an additional primary source.
5. Credible secondary sources: scholarly publications and “popular” or public history publications (Smithsonian Magazine, PBS, etc.) acceptable.
CITATIONS:
1. MLA or APA are acceptable (choose your preference but be consistent).
2. Use source citations throughout your paper.
3. Source citation page required.
4. Plagiarism is a serious offense. Anytime that you use material from an outside source you need to reference it when you use it! See: plagiarism section in the syllabus.
