Choose ONE of the following tasks:

*The ‘classical’ theories of international politics and international political economy are criticized by some for no longer being relevant to understanding important features of the current international system. Choose an empirical ‘case’ or phenomenon (eg trade disputes between the USA and China, the global pandemic, globalization of labor markets, etc.) and discuss the extent to which all more of the classical theories are useful for understanding the case.*

Or

*Take as a starting point Ruggies’ (1982) article on embedded liberalism, and discuss the extent to which the term still covers the current international economic system. Feel free to choose an empirical focus area for the discussion.*

Or

*Discuss aspects of the international handling of the pandemic in the light of at least two theories of international political economy. Areas of focus may (but must not) include topics such as vulnerability in international value chains, conflict and cooperation around the acquisition of infection control equipment, the distribution of vaccines and the maintenance of patent rights.*
