As mentioned several times throughout the course, you are required to submit a short policy analysis in the form of an essay. I hope that you have all, by now, picked a topic and began your research. To re-iterate, you are not restricted in the choice of your topic as long as it relates to population economics. You may wish to focus on any aspect of the course that was covered or choose a topic that was not addressed as part of the course that interests you. Students can address economic policy decisions, religion, race, geography, epidemics/pandemics, technology, and etcetera in relation to population economics.
My suggestion is to write with a very narrow focus in terms of topic (say, TFR), geographical area (say, a country or region of a country), and time period (say, 1800-1850). The reason for such a narrow focus is twofold: (1) the literature on population economics is vast, and (2) the length of the essay compels one to address a specific policy issue rather than a broad topic.
