For this assignment, students will talk with a teenager who has a different perspective on youth culture than their own. Then, using these responses, as well as course readings, points shared during synchronous meetings, discussion boards, and so on, you will reflect on the course content from Youth Development and Society and your reactions to the content. Then present a clear expression of your (informed) opinions, judgments, and conclusions. Your paper should provide the following information:
Introduction with a clear purpose statement
Description of the person you talked with (demographics, his/her relationship to you, how you gained access to him/her)
List of the questions you asked teenagers (you do not need to include their answers)
Key points learned from talking with the teenager
Detailed reflection of the key points (see below)
Reflection is a cognitive process that promotes self-awareness and encourages self-assessment. The following questions can serve as a guide for your reflection process. You are not required to answer these questions, but feel free to use them to guide your thinking.
Based on talking with the teenager, what new perspectives of youth culture did you learn from your teen? Give specific examples from the teen.
How were the perspectives shared by the teen you talked with similar to or different from your own views of youth culture? What can you learn about youth culture based on the perspectives of the teen you talked with?
How has the course content either supported or changed your knowledge, attitudes, and/or beliefs about youth, youth culture, and/or youth work? Give specific examples from the course content and/or your teen.
What trends are apparent in the course content and how do these trends either support or negate your inferences and/or predictions (and/or what you learned from the teen)? Give specific examples from the course content.
What new knowledge (or a new understanding of previous knowledge) have you acquired from the course content (and/or talking with your teen) that could impact how you work with youth in the future? Give specific examples from the course content.
You must cite course readings (books, journal articles) using APA format (6thedition).
The paper should be approximately 6-7 pages in length (not including the cover page and references page). The paper should be double spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, with 1 inch margins on all sides.
