Purpose:
a) to synthesize the knowledge gained from this course and create a coherent presentation about a genetic disease or a genetic trait.
b) To help spread awareness of rare traits and genetic conditions.
The more you can demonstrate an understanding of the science underlying the genetic disorder, the higher your grade.
The more you can connect the biology of the disorder to issues that are relevant to you, individuals, businesses, or public policy, the higher your grade.
A well-organized and efficient presentation will improve your grade.
Your video should include the following:
description of the genetic disorder (possibly a picture of a patient with this disorder)
history or background about the genetic disorder/trait
describe phenotype, genotype
biological pathways if known
the mode of inheritance
make up your own Genetics Problem based on this disease or trait. It can be a question based on Mendelian genetics (calculating probability or determining who is a carrier) or something related to molecular biology.
personal, business or cultural significance (In this course, my aim is to provide supportive and safe environment for discussion. However, remember you don’t have to disclose any personal details if you feel uncomfortable; feel free to make the story about a “friend” and keep it anonymous). I highly suggest that you DO NOT include any personal information in your video.
