Psychoanalytic theory and non psychoanalytic theory applied to a person

I. Purpose: The primary purpose of this paper is to demonstrate your in-depth
knowledge of specific theories & your ability to apply your knowledge
to a specific case example.
a) describe either a person you know, a celebrity,
a historical figure, or a character from a book, movie, or other medium;
3b) describe and examine this person from a psychoanalytic perspecti e
(either Freud or one of his followers)
c) describe and examine this
person from another non-psychoanalytic theoretical perspective in your
textbook d) summarize and present your critical opinion about how well
(or not!) these theories serve in examining the person in question. In
other words, your personal conclusions will demonstrate your ability to
decide if the theories are robust enough to apply to a general person.

II. Paper Format
short INVITING INTRODUCTION AND A THESIS STATEMENT
(a) which you will present at least 5 life events in
the life of the person (case example) of your choice (no theory info).
b. In the second section
(b), you will apply a psychoanalytic theory in
describing the life of the person in question. You must choose your theory
from one of the psychoanalytic and neo-psychoanalytic approaches (i.e.,
Freud, Jung, Adler, or Erikson).
c. In the third section (c), you will apply a non-psychoanalytic theory in
examining the life of the person in question. You must choose your theory
from one of the other major perspectives of personality theory covered in
class & outside of psychoanalytic perspective (i.e., trait (Cattell), cognitive
(Kelly), humanistic-existential (Rogers/Maslow) or social-behavioral
(Bandura).
d. In section d (conclusion), you will conclude with how strongly the theories
(psychoanalytic and non-psychoanalytic) are supported by the life of the

III. Grading Criteria:
a)The assignment is worth 50 points and the paper is due for review on by October 30th, 2021
midnight.
b)Your grade will be based on:
i. Appropriate selection of a character and theories.
ii. Use of sources to summarize information relevant to the paper.
iii. Appropriate use of evidence in justifying the relevant “fit” between theories and life
events.
iv. Completeness of your presentation in originality.
v. Writing style (i.e., organization, presentation, clarity, and APA writing style).
vi. Spelling and grammar.
Other Criteria:
a. The paper should be 3 pages in length. (Do not exceed that).

c. Each paper must be typed, 12 pts font (Times New Roman), standard one-inch margins all
around, numbered, and double-spaced.
d. APA style is to be used. NO ABSTRACT is needed. No headings either.
e. All papers must have cover sheet (not included in your page count) that includes the title of your
paper, your name, and your student ID number. All papers must have a reference page. Both
should be in APA style.
