Psychology in the workplace

IT MAY SEEM LONG, BUT IT’S SUPER EASY. There will be 3 article review from 3 different sources. You need to write a summary that includes a description of the assignment, your findings, and your thoughts and answer questions. PLEASE SEPARATE EACH ASSIGNMENT BY NUMBERS.

#1 Do you get stuck in the negatives? Do your negative attitudes seem to endure longer and have a stronger hold on you than positive attitudes or experiences?
Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XFLTDQ4JMk at UC Davis, then reflect on how you may also get stuck in the negative, or with a negative attitude. (CHAPTER 6)
Things to consider or address for this reflection assignment:
Is there a time that a negative situation happened that overshadowed or prevented you from seeing other positive aspects that are also happening in your life?
How does the media, or close friends and family, or culture play a part in getting you stuck in the negatives?
What actions or steps do you take or can you make to shift from being stuck in the negative to a more realistic framing of the circumstances in your life?

#2 We’re going to dive deeper into assertiveness and speaking up. Go grab a quick snack and watch this 15-minute TedTalk:
How to speak up for yourself | Adam Galinsky (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEDgtjpycYg)
After watching Dr. Galinsky and learning about the low-power double bind, what are your thoughts on his idea of being able to expand your range of acceptable behavior? What do you think you can do to expand your range of acceptable behavior (for instance, in negotiations or during conflict)?
How might you use assertiveness to your advantage? Are there instances where you engaged in assertive behavior and created a win-win situation? Are there instances where you wish you engaged in assertive behavior? Provide one example of either (a) an instance where you behaved assertively and got desired results OR (b) should/could have behaved assertively to get desired results. Remember, leave out names and identifying details of others. (CHAPTER 13)

#3 The emphasis of this chapter is focused on cultivating a positive mindset that will increase your level of engagement, energy, and thus performance in your work. The eBook discusses the research of Harvard professor Shawn Achor, who among others postulates that success will happen when we are happy and can filter the world in positive ways, not the other way around as most of us think (we will be happy once we are successful). Watch professors Achor’s TEDx talk (https://www.ted.com/talks/shawn_achor_the_happy_secret_to_better_work#t-716231).
So, how positive are you? What kind of attitude do you show up with to work or school? Do you bring energy to others or drain their energy? How well do you focus on the positive aspects of your situation and eliminate the negative? What can you do to be more positive in everyday situations? These questions are the basis for this week’s reflection assignment. If you would like to quantify your level of positivity you can take the positivity ratio test (https://www.wm.edu/offices/auxiliary/osher/course-info/classnotes/spring2017/SilerPositivePsychologyClass3PositivitySelfTest.pdf).
