Race and Class in Guyanese Politics

The focus of this class is demonization of African/Africans to rationalize exploitation at different stages of history. We saw many examples of this in Rodney, Race and Class in Guyanese Politics (1978) and Davidson, Africa A Voyage of Discovery, Episode 6 (2016).
For your first Short Response Paper, please select one of the following two assignments we’ve completed for your answer. Don’t answer both—just one:
1) In “Race and Class in Guyanese Politics” we saw how manufactured racism (promoted by the British ruling class in colonial Guyana) made it easier for the Europeans to exploit the workers who were African Guyanese and Indian Guyanese. Write a short response paper of no more than two pages showing some examples of
how manufactured (or promoted) racism was used to exploit the working class in colonial Guyana, South America.
Remember to include at least three citations from the documentary. (Rodney, 1978, minute mark from lecture). After the first reference, for the next two you don’t have to give the year again, so it would be (Rodney, minute mark from the lecture).

Remember start your paper off with a good introductory sentence. We discussed many examples in class.
Also remember some of the points we discussed:
1. Most important points should come early in your paper not at the end
2. Prepare a list of all the important points you want to use (and then select three) before you sit down to wrote your paper.
3. Make sure you read over the first draft carefully then write a second final form.
4. Make sure every sentence that follows is related to the previous one.
