Please do the following in this exact order:
1) Read E.B. White’s essay “Education,” which is posted on the main page immediately below this assignment as a PDF file.
2) In a paragraph or two, answer the following: Strictly based upon White’s writing – disregarding any personal experiences or biases that you may have brought to this essay – which school seems better, the private city school or the public country school? Does White seem to favor either one or do you think he honestly believes what he claims – that they are equal? Support your answer with examples from his essay.
3) Also appearing on the announcements page, you will find my “Analysis of E.B. White’s ‘Education.'” Read this piece paying particularly close attention to my discussion of ethos, pathos, and logos and how they are used in the “Education” essay.
4) In another paragraph or two, answer the following: Did your answer to question two above agree with my analysis of White’s essay? If it did not, did I change your mind? (Hint: I sure hope so!) Why or why not? If our analyses of this essay did agree to begin with, did I help identify the specifics about which you may have just had a “hunch” originally? Or, had you already made note of some subliminal uses of language in White’s piece?
