( Five points for completeness ) Read the following description of the motion of a ball thrown by a person and answer the questions that follow BY WEDNESDAY before midnight by replying to the prompt below.

A person here on earth throws a ball straight up away from the ground. On the way up, it is slowing down. At some moment in time, the motion is zero. But after this, the ball speeds up towards the ground.

( 2 Points ) There is a moment in time when the ball is at the very top of its trajectory. It is neither moving up, nor is it moving down. And in this case, the ball has no sideways motion, so, at this instant, its instantaneous velocity is zero. What is the ball’s acceleration? Give both the direction and the amount.

( 2 Points ) Newton’s Laws of Motion connect forces on an object, the mass of the object, and the acceleration of the object. Which Newton’s Law of Motion is most appropriate to use to understand the previous question. Explain your choice.

( 1 Point ) Explain why it’s possible for an object to have an instant where it is NOT moving but it IS accelerating?
