Realism in Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre

Realism: Consider the key features of realism below and discuss the different ways in which the writers studied in the course may employ them, or even resist them.
You make reference to both of the novels studied in the course.
Features of realism:
• presenting a convincing portrayal of an ‘ordinary’ world through description and characterization
• focus on the lives of working or middle class characters and description of a varied and complex social world.
• focus on the psychological and the social; may have a moral or political purpose
• usually linear plots, concerned with objective reality; does not include fantastic,
supernatural or epic elements.

1. This is how I would like the essay to be planned and each section should have refereneces from both books and some quotes from the book to support the argument

Firstly, how the authors present the everyday life of their characters through description and characterisation will be discussed. Secondly, it will be examined how they achieve to describe and comment on the social context of the era. Thirdly, how and why these two novels are categorised as psychological and/or social realist novels will be studied. Last but not least, the plot of these novels will also be explored as a feature of realism.

2. No subheadings

3. Font Times New Roman 12pt and 1.5 spacing

I will upload some resources I have found which might be useful!
