Project 3: Refutation paper
Directions:
• Use the template to construct a refutation case (rebuttal) based on the case of one of your
classmates. You will have received the case as a ‘submission comment’ in your project 3
assignment.
• The length should be a minimum of 3 pages (double-spaced, 12 point font, Times new
roman, etc.)
• Clearly type the labels for each component & use the below structure to setup your
assignment.
• Incorporate a minimum of 3 different, credible sources. These sources must be cited
internally within the paper.
• This paper will be similar in format to Project 2. It will be written as an argumentative
script and not as a narrative. This shouldn’t be written in essay format but instead be
written as a formatted rebuttal to the paper assigned to you.
Template:
I. Introduction
• Attention statement
• State your counter-argument refuting original claim
II. Attack significance (harms) In narrative format, answer the following:
• Did arguer prove that this is a significant problem?
• Can you prove that the problem is smaller in scope than the affirmative claims?
III. Attack Inherency In narrative format, answer the following:
• Did the arguer prove that the status quo is flawed?
• Did the arguer effectively identify the type of inherency?
IV. Attack Plan In narrative format, answer the following:
• Workability: why won’t the plan work (wrong agency, vague mandates, no
funding/staffing, lack of enforcement, etc.?
V. Attack Solvency In narrative format, answer the following:
• Does the plan solve for each harm discussed in the significance section?
VI. Attack Advantages In narrative format, answer the following:
• Is the advantage non unique? (in other words, is this benefit specifically a result
from the plan or could it occur without the plan)
• Did the arguer prove that the advantage will really occur?
• Is the advantage really a disadvantage?
VII. Conclusion
• Encapsulate how your position is better than the position of the arguer.
• Closing statement
NOTE: Will send the Case to rebuttal against if you accept. More information will be sent.
