Assignment: Reading Journal on Regional Governance
Attatched to this order you will find an extract in which you are to make the journal entry on. You are only required to read 13 pages of the docuement (Page 18-31)
The document is titled:
“Physical Development Plan for the Jinja-Kampala-Mpigi Ugandan Regional Corridor”
Journals must follow a specific, two-paragraph format, as follows:
· The first paragraph should summarize the chapter/article in 4-7 sentences. A good summary clearly lays out the subject matter covered and explains the main argument of the text (the author’s thesis), and how that argument is supported. It may also point out distinctive feature(s) of the text (e.g. structure, tone, style, etc.), but should only focus on these if they are relevant to the substance of the argument. It will support the above points with specific references to the text.
· The second paragraph should provide your response to (analysis of) the chapter/article in 4-7 sentences. Your response should flow from your summary (first paragraph). The second paragraph should conclude with a “discussion prompt,” or in other words, a question for class discussion. The discussion prompt is the most important part of the journal, so don’t treat it as an afterthought! A good response will develop an analysis, based on the summary, that leads logically to the posing of a problem that you want (need) help from the class to solve.
· In your response, it may be necessary for you to describe more details about the text. But for the most part, the first paragraph should be descriptive, and the second part should be critical/analytical.
· When you are quoting or paraphrasing the assigned reading, just put the page number in brackets after the quotation or paraphrase. For example, you can say: “Like other students of regional government, Keil et al. have put forward the argument that ‘[t]he region is back in town’ (3), meaning…” If you refer to any other texts, provide a full citation in one consistent style (APA, Chicago, or MLA).
