Relationship between motivation management theory and practice

Background
The management literature contains a large body of theory relating to motivation, and textbooks on organisational behaviour and management often present these under the headings of content theories and process theories. Each category contains a range of theories.
However, the relationship between management theory and practice is not straightforward, and translating theory into effective action in any particular context may require considerable modification and adaptation.
Your Task
You should consider the question of the extent to which motivation theories can be regarded as a straightforward guide to management action in practical situations. You should consider a range of theories, published practical case studies of motivation theory in action, and your own experience in the workplace.
Given the wide range of theories available, and a large literature of case studies, you will have to be selective in your treatment of this question.
Your analysis should be structured in the following way:
• A cover page, setting out a title for your analysis (plus your SID number and word count)
• A detailed contents page, with headings and page numbers for each of your sections and sub-sections.
• An introduction, setting out the parameters of the problem, the particular theories and practical situations that you have decided to analyse, your justifications for these choices, and your approach to them. (approximately 200 words)
• An analysis, constructed around academic references, empirical evidence and your own experience. You may wish to break this discussion down into headed sub-sections for greater clarity. (approximately 800 words)
• A conclusion, giving a concise summary of your arguments your conclusions regarding the practical applicability of motivation theory. (approximately 200 words)
• Reference list, in Harvard format.
