Discussion Thread: After studying the Reading & Study materials, compose a 500-600 word argument that is objective, carefully-constructed, and free of emotion (and hence it should not contain any exclamation points) in support of your opinion about ethical relativism and Christian ethics. Formulate your argument by answering BOTH of the following questions:
Is Christian ethics relativistic or absolutist? Explain your answer.
What, if any, are the differences between ethical relativism and the subjective aspects of Christian ethics?
For question 1, answer whether Christian ethics is relativistic or absolutist. First, you should define relativism and absolutism. Don’t simply re-state the reading, but provide an explanation of relativism and absolutism using your own words but also showing that you did the reading and understand the issues. Present the strengths and weaknesses of relativism and how these compare to absolutism. Whichever side you take on the issue, please treat both sides with respect.
For question 2, explain the differences between ethical relativism and the subjective elements in Christian ethics. In addition to the textbooks, outside sources, and video presentations, you are encouraged to incorporate important biblical passages such as Romans 14-15.
In your Discussion thread and reply, you should bring into play the material from the assigned readings, Moral Choices and Talking About Ethics. You must read these books carefully. Each book presents arguments for relativism that are eventually rejected as fallacious. The more cogent arguments are not presented later in the chapters where the authors deal with serious objections to relativism. In addition, I highly recommend that you read ahead in chapters 2 and 3 of Moral Choices. Since Discussion 1 covers Modules 1 and 2, it will be advantageous for you to read these chapters so that you can deal with all requirements of this assignment, including your thread and reply.
You are expected to cite at least one academic source in your DB threads and replies. These sources would include the course textbooks, books, journal articles, periodicals, and similar publications. DO NOT use sources such as Wikipedia and online dictionaries as these do not count as academic sources and should not be used. Biblical references are highly encouraged, but will not count as an academic source.
In Discussion Board 1, you will be asked to defend your views on ethical relativism and absolutism, specifically, whether you think Christian ethics is one or the other. If this is helpful, imagine that a colleague at work has emailed you asking you what you think about this issue. How would you answer them in light of what you are learning? As you complete this assignment, consider a few things to help you write:
What are ethical relativism and ethical absolutism? How do the textbooks define these terms?
What are the arguments for ethical relativism? What are the arguments against ethical relativism? Do you agree with any of these? Why or why not?
How does ethical relativism and ethical absolutism each line up with your understanding of Christianity?
Can you think of any examples or illustrations that would support the points you are trying to make?

Some things to avoid:
Writing in first or second person. It is best practice to write in third person.
Errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar. PROOF READ.
Simply stating what you believe without giving good reasons for why you believe it.
Writing about unrelated issues or answering a different question than the one asked in the instructions.
Misquoting your sources or misrepresenting them.
Using long or extensive quotes that take up a large portion of your assignment. This needs to be in your own words (mostly).
Improper formatting.
