Problem Statement and Research Topic
This week, you will seek approval for a research area for your quantitative research proposal project due in weeks 7 and 8. Submit a one-page, double-spaced paper addressing the following points:
Identify your chosen research topic
Create at least one problem statement to go along with your chosen research area
Identify your research question/s
Explain the significance of the research topic to nursing
Upon completion, your instructor will approve, deny, or make recommendations for modifications of your research topic, problem statement, or research question(s) to ensure successful completion of the research proposal project.

Below is my proposal topic and PICOT:
As soon as a patient enters the hospital, discharge planning is begun. We take care of our patients, provide them with the highest standard of care, and then discharge them once we feel they are well enough to be able to continue treatment outside of the hospital. Since beginning this program, I’ve been focusing many of my presentations on homelessness. I live in the city and close to downtown, so I constantly see homeless individuals all over the city, and it’s downright heartbreaking. I encounter homeless individuals who have apparent psychological problems, substance abuse disorders as well as many physical health conditions. While the United States has lower levels of poverty than non-industrialized countries, there are a significant number of individuals who meet the criteria for homelessness. Regardless of what state we live in, we will encounter homeless patients who are admitted for the first time for certain illnesses, and homeless patients who are being readmitted for the fifth time due to medication and treatment noncompliance/non-adherence.
I would like to prepare a research proposal targeting the number of homeless patients discharged by hospitals without the appropriate resources to continue hospital treatments. PICOT: Are homeless individuals discharged from hospital settings back to the streets without the necessary supplies and capabilities to continue effective care more at risk of developing negative outcomes than homeless patients who are discharged to a lower-level of care?
