Fictional citizen, Theodore P. Snickerdoodle wrote a letter to the editor of Social Interaction, a
fictional newspaper that presents sociological articles in line with everything you’ve learned in our
SOC 126 course thus far. Fictional writers of this newspaper include Prof. Caviness, and all
authors/theorists assigned in your course thus far (e.g., Goffman, Mead, Denzin).
Your task is to respond to Theodore P. Snickerdoodle’s Op-ed with your own letter to the editor. You
should engage with Theodore’s claims using evidence from our course. Your essay should be
persuasive, organized, clear, and concise. Below are additional expectations.
• Purpose: Strive to show your depth of understanding of the themes of key arguments
presented in our course (including assigned materials) thus far.
• Length: 1300 (minimum) – 1600 words (maximum)
• Sources: Minimum of 4 course sources (no maximum). Cite (ASA or APA). No works cited
needed, but you must cite in-text. If citing lecture in-text (Caviness Lecture MM/DD/YYYY) will
suffice. No outside sources permitted.
• Format: Begin and end in the style of a letter to the editor. Use organized paragraphs to
express your ideas. Double space, 12pt standard font.
• Grading Criteria: You will be graded on accuracy, evidence, and depth of understanding. Be
creative, clear, and concise. Strong essays will avoid incomplete sentences, typos, and overuse
of direct quotations. Paraphrase when possible. A strong essay will also define key concepts
used.
