Response Paper: What Would Woodrow Wilson Say?

Assignment Description
What Would Woodrow Wilson Say?
Review the videos and read the textbook chapter carefully. Then read through all of Woodrow Wilson’s war speeches. Consider the different rationales Wilson used for how he would create world peace. For example, free trade, a League of Nations, arms reductions, basic needs for people, and more. Remember that Wilson was a white male statesman of the early 20th century, yes, he did express highly racist and patriarchal ideas. But he also had some very forward thinking ideas about global political relations. It was the forward thinking ideas about solutions for global peace that earned Wilson the Nobel Peace Prize. Next, try to apply some of Wilson’s better ideas to today. Consider the struggles both internationally and domestically of the United States today. Choose an issue, then pretend you are Woodrow Wilson. Write a speech to Congress on what the United States should do to solve for that issue today. Make specific references to Wilson’s plans and ideas from World War I to support your plans for today. Pull his best ideas forward. Include details about why those ideas were good back then and why similar ideas would be good today. Write a strong speech of at least 350 words.
