For this assignment, you must choose one of the 3 articles for this week (Pulido, Lowe, or Le Billon), read the article closely, and write a short 1ST DRAFT of you review essay of 800 words.
The review essay should NOT be mostly a summary of the article. Instead, you should organize your essay around a question, critique, or point about the importance or relevance of the article, particularly with regard to geography, global studies, and/or the previous readings from our past few weeks.
In writing your review, you might address which kinds of evidence the author uses to make their argument, whether you find it convincing, and/or whether other kinds of evidence might have been warranted. You may also address which kinds of research methods the author used to collect that evidence. And you may also address the writing style and audience of the paper (which intellectual debates or social issues or policy discussions is the author addressing?).
Remember, this is just a first draft, you’ll have a chance to practice revising the draft with some of my comments. Then you’ll also have a chance to exchange feedback on your 2nd draft with classmates and then make revisions for your 3rd and final draft.
