Students are required to attend a school board meeting and submit an observation report including summary of personal reflections regarding the experience, specifically (but not limited to):
(1) Information about the meeting: date, time, location, name of the school district, superintendent, etc.
(2) Descriptive narrative and comments on:
• Structure of the meeting (formal/informal)
• Procedures observed
• Roles demonstrated by participants/community leaders
• Audience interaction/participation
• Topics presented
• Policies presented
• Conflicts that arose and management of them
• Media Involvement
• Sense of Climate
• Opinion of the district’s operation and public image based on the meeting observation
(3) Your reflections on observation of the board meeting, such as what went well and what could have been done differently.
