1. Review the “Using Perspectives-Taking to Achieve Knowledge” section in Chapter 5 of the textbook on page 211.
2. Read the six accounts of the confrontation between students and the Chinese Army at Tiananmen Square on pages 211-215. Take notes in the form of a table that compares and contrasts specific details about different elements of the accounts. (See the attached example of a table format for organizing your notes.)
3. Write 2-3 substantive sentences about each of the accounts. Provide at least 2 examples of how each author (or one of the authors of the official Chinese government accounts) used language – specific words or phrases – to express his or her perspective and to influence the thinking (or the “take away”) of the reader. Is the account a convincing description of what took place? Why or why not?
