Needing to rewrite or explaned on to my first draft. (I have attached my first draft) These are some suggestion! For your next draft, you can find other examples of metaphor to analyze and/or examples of apostrophe and repetition. Right now those last two are mentioned, but not analyzed.
You could also continue your rhetorical analysis by connecting things like audience and genre to your already existing analysis of metaphor. That is to say – you’ve answered HOW Aaliyah uses metaphor, but try answering why. Why does she use metaphor instead of another rhetorical device? Why is the genre of R&B connected to metaphor? Is it at all? Why does metaphor work for her song’s purpose and stance (her argument/the style of her argument)?
Yet another way to continue your rhetorical analysis is to spend more time analyzing the music video. You mention how it was shot on the ocean. What else happens in it? How does what’s happening change her intended audience’s understanding of the lyrics (and metaphor or another rhetorical device)?
