Before developing your own argument in the latter half of the semester, it is important to first recognize how an
argument is constructed, examining an author’s rhetorical choices. For this essay, analyze and evaluate the
rhetorical strategies used in a Kinesiology major. You will do this by analyzing how the authors in a peer-reviewed article present their arguments. Identify their purpose, how they establish credibility, and how they present
evidence to their audience. It is not enough to exclusively summarize the text; you must critically approach it. Along with your main article, you will provide two to three additional sources from your discipline to support your analysis of your main article.

Things to consider:

Analyze the article by using the active reading strategies discussed in class.
Recognize authorial intent.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the rhetorical strategies used.
Your assigned article will be the main focus of the essay, but additional outside sources will support and
contextuaze your analysis.
Collaboration is a key component of this unit; you must effectively communicate with your group members and be involved.
