Instructions:
Follow the specified length requirement. There are 350-word and 800-word options below.
Each essay must use a minimum of two scholarly sources. You will lose points for all non-scholarly sources used in your essay. While you may use assigned readings in your essay, these do not count toward the source requirement.
All citations must be in accurate Chicago style.
All essays must be typed and double-spaced.
You must use Times New Roman font, and all margins must be set to one-inch.
Your heading should include the following information single-spaced in the top left corner of your first page – first and last name, HIS 101, date of submission. There is no need to put the instructor’s name or any other information.
Your title should be centered, in plain 12-point text, with appropriate words capitalized – no title page is necessary.
Do not use contractions (don’t, can’t, won’t, etc.) or slang/jargon/clichés (‘raining like cats and dogs’, ‘my two cents’, ‘in the dog house’, etc.).
Always write in the third person (he, she, it, they, etc.) and NEVER use first or second person perspective at any time! This is an egregious infraction in historical writing.
Write in the past tense, as all of the content you discuss in your essays happened in the past.
