Rough Draft of Formal Assignment #3: Resume

Directions:
Your
task for this formal assignment will be to write a resume for a specific job opening.
First,
find a job posting or internship opportunity that you are currently qualified
for, or that you will be qualified for upon graduation. You may locate the
posting using employment sites like Indeed or LinkedIn, or search company
websites or talk to people in your field.
Write
a resume that is oriented toward this specific position. Although you may have
already written a resume on your own, consider how you might edit it to make
yourself more appealing to a particular company. Please refer to Chapter 17,
pp. 379-391, of your textbook for additional help in creating and/or editing
your resume. The chapter also provides models of successful resumes.
Further, you will want to consult the document, Guidelines for Writing a Successful
Resume, posted under the Week 9 module. The guidelines
are a supplement to the assigned reading and provide many tips on how to create
and organize an effective resume.
I
expect your resume to fill one full page, with appropriate headings, spacing
and/or lists. Business experts typically caution against exceeding one page
unless you have 10+ years of professional experience. Please do not use a font
size that exceeds 12 points unless it is for your name or headings.
When
you submit your resume, please include a link of the job posting at
the very bottom of your resume.
Because
errors in spelling and grammar on a resume can destroy a candidate’s chances of
being seriously considered for a position, I will be deducting points for each
substantial error in that area.
Please
consult this week’s additional materials for further guidance in writing a
successful resume. The materials are designed as a supplement to the
aforementioned information contained in your textbook. While there is no
official peer review for this assignment, the attached document,
“Self-Guided Editing Questions for Resume Writing,” can serve as an
excellent editing tool to help tighten your document. Students also are encouraged,
but not required, to ask a peer to read their resumes with the editing
questions in mind.
