Routine Request – Product Information
Louis St. Jean (LSJ) is a famous design house in France with annual sales of $1.2 billion in clothing,
perfume, scarves, and other designer items. Each year it prepares more than 150 original designs for its
seasonal collections.
As head buyer for Cindy’s, an upscale women’s clothing store at Mall of America in Minneapolis, you
think you might like to begin offering LSJ’s line of perfume. You need to know more about pricing, types
of perfume offered, minimum ordering quantities, marketing assistance provided by LSJ, and the like.
You would like to know if you could have exclusive marketing rights to LSJ perfumes in the Minneapolis
area, and whether you would have to carry LSJ’s complete line. You do not think the most expensive
perfumes would be big sellers.
Write to Mr. Henri Vixier, U. S License Supervisor at Louis St. Jean. His address is 1212 6th Ave, New
York, NY 10036

Determine appropriate formatting for letter, address, addressee, etc. A letter, sent to someone external
to the organization, is usually separated from its envelope upon arrival. (You do NOT need to turn in an
envelope). Imagine this as a paper, “snail mail” letter. Determine what his most appropriate form of
response should be and include that in your letter.
Your letter should be written in the direct style with a positive friendly opening, major idea first (that
your letter is a request for information), explanation and details, and friendly close. The close should
have a “future” orientation that indicates how and when you would like to hear back from the reader.
You should have some type of goodwill message at the end that promotes a future relationship.
Submit your letter as a 1-page Word document uploaded to the assignment.
Use Ch. 2-6, and Appendix B to assist you in creating this letter. This appendix can help you with
commonly asked questions about formatting.
Use block format (everything starts at the left margin) and standard punctuation (colon after the
greeting, comma after the complimentary close). Examples of this are at the end of this
document. You can also find formatting examples of external letters throughout the book. Be sure to
include the writer’s address in the signature box, or in a “letterhead” you create.
