script analysis

Select one of the student scripts located in the folder entitled: “Scripts for analysis assignment” Read the whole script but select ONE SIGNIFICANT SCENE to analyze.
For this one scene, address the questions below from your own perspective. (answers should take into account what we know from the entire script)
1. Describe what happens in this scene in one or two sentences.
2. Key Beats: What is the key beat of the scene and why? In other words: what do you feel is the most important specific moment in the scene and why is it important?
3. Character Objectives: What is each character trying to achieve in the scene. Think specifically about what they are trying to get the other person to do (ie. he wants to get her to hug him) Are there any alternative objectives the characters might have?
4. Questions for each character: Any questions pertinent to what’s happening in this scene that can help lead to a deeper understanding of this character. Give possible answers to each question you come up with.
5. Possible character backstory: Come up with a possible backstory for each character in the scene. This backstory should be relevant to what is happening in the scene.
6. Line analysis: For 2 FULL LINES of dialogue in the scene examine the following: Intentions- What is she trying to make the other person feel/do with this line? How is she trying to do it? Subtext- What is the character really saying.
7. Director’s vision: Briefly describe how you imagine the tone/style of this scene. In other words: What would YOUR vision for this scene be? Feel free to reference camera, lights, color or anything you feel is relevant to the way you see it.
