From teacher:
As a continuation from week 8 and what you wrote for Description and Outline for Analysis 1, you will be asked to continue your analysis, now having been introduced to some new semiotic examples from the realm of advertising.
This means, for example, regardless of what your original topic for week 8 in analysis 1 was, semiotics of food/fashion/dress, to expand on this selection by further considering what role advertising plays in your semiotic analysis.
This can be done in at least 1 of 2 different ways.
First possibility: you can consider re-writing parts or the entirety of your first paper, also including a semiotic analysis on the role of advertising. In whatever example and case study you provide, please don’t feel like you have to talk about EVERYTHING. Still, if you selected a fashion topic, for example, how does advertising affect the messages perceived by the audience? Would the messages be perceived differently if advertising wasn’t a consideration in our semiotic analysis? The same questions also apply for food and dress.
Second possibility: you can add a separate section on advertising to your previous paper, treating what you wrote last week as independent from and unique compared to the impact advertising has on your topic. So, consider this like chapters in a book, and each chapter covers a different piece. Using this approach, you wouldn’t necessarily need to re-write what you already wrote, but if you touched upon the influence of advertising in your first 3-pages already, then you may be better off opting for the first possibility above in terms of better reorganizing what you have.
Formatting:
Your draft should be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, 1-inch margins all around (note Google docs does not have these settings as a default; if you’re using Word the margins should be 1-inch already).
