Short Essay on Womens Rights in the Middle East
Each student will be asked to write a short essay (600 words +/-) in which they offer a snapshot of the current state of womens rights and gender equality in at least TWO countries in the Middle East and Gulf States, with a focus on identifying key patterns, trends, challenges and opportunities rather than minute details. The short paper should largely be inspired by the readings but will/should involve some additional research. The idea is to approach the paper as a mini-briefing paper, i.e. as a snapshot of key trends. Focus, nuance and evidence of understanding what is happening are key.
