This assignment aims to systematically synthesize the existing body of research published in academic sources. Focus on the literature related to your research topic and research question(s). When reading your sources, try to understand their themes, patterns, and connections to each other. Make sure that you are not summarizing each article instead of synthesizing it. Remember, “A literature review is a comprehensive summary of ideas, issues, approaches, and research findings that have been published on a particular subject area or topic” (Kiteley & Stogdon, 2014, p. 9).
Instructions:
Write a 500 to 750 words literature review on the topic you have selected. Use a 12 – point font, 1-inch margin, Arial or Times New Roman, and double-spaced the paper. You must reference all ideas and information according to the APA Manual 7th edition. Please note: an in-text citation is required when you paraphrase or use a quotation. Your in-text citations must match with the reference page.
What you need to do:
1. Select a particular research topic that interests you the most.
2. Develop at least one tentative research question (A research question is a
straightforward, focused, concise, complex, and arguable question around which
you center your research. Your RQ serves as a mini-outline for your paper).
3. Find five scholarly articles on a topic of your choice that use qualitative (mainly)
and quantitative research methods.
4. Write how each article contributes to understanding the topic you have chosen (compare and contrast).
5. Connect the articles to your research question(s); find out the strengths and challenges of previous research approaches (what methods and approaches worked or did not work).
6. Find gaps, inconsistencies, or problems in the articles and how it still needs to be addressed on the topic.
7. Compare and contrast the different arguments, theories, methodologies, and past studies’ findings (whenever possible). You can have a paragraph under each theme (if you prefer).
8. Critique the literature (do not criticize), write which arguments are more persuasive and why?
9. Conclude your literature review with the main findings from the articles you reviewed and underline the critical point to answer your research questions. Conclude your literature review section with an emphatic restatement of your study’s central research questions (goals).
