Should states be permitted to bank mask mandates in schools?

Amidst the surge of the Delta variant and the beginning of the new school year, mask requirements continue to be hotly debated. About a dozen states have imposed mask mandates in schools, and most are leaving the decision up to their individual school districts. And then there are the handful of states that have imposed a ban on mask mandates in schools and financial penalties to those school districts who opt to defy the order. Such is the case in Florida, where Governor DeSantis is appealing a recent court ruling that his executive order banning mask mandates exceeded his authority. Should states be permitted to bank mask mandates in schools?
