Similarites and differences

Part 2 of the exam is a long essay (worth 125 points). Choose one (1) of the essay prompts below and write an essay that thoroughly answers the questions posed. Make sure your essay has an overall argument and uses specific and thoughtful details from the readings (ie: names of people, events, policies, key terms, historical context, etc.)
– Your essay should be 3-4 pages double spaced (do not exceed 5 pages double spaced), Times New Roman or Calibri, 12pt font, with 1-inch margins (see heading format on the last page of this document).
– This essay must be written in your own words. NO DIRECT QUOTES. The only source you are allowed to use is the textbook assigned for this class and the pre-recorded lectures. You may not use information from outside sources. You must also use citations. Just because you are not using direct quotes does not mean that you dont need to cite.
– Please include footnote citations to the parts of the book you got the information from. The citation should follow the following format:
Name of Section from the book, The Enduring Vision: A History of the American People, 9th ed. (Boston: Cengage Learning, 2018), digital file.
– Please save your file as a .doc or .docx file and save using the following naming format
o Full last name followed by first letter of first name Unit 1 Essay

When in doubt, use the three words rule. If you are using three consecutive words that are identical to the book, you need to quote and cite it. But since there are no direct quotes allowed on this essay, you need to put it in your own words every time.

1) In the first half of the 17th century, Britain established distinct colonies in North America. For this essay, compare and contrast the Chesapeake and New England colonies. Make sure your essay evaluates climate/health, society, religion, labor, and relationships with Natives in the colonies. Your argument must answer the following question: Where do you see the most similarity between these colonies and where do you see the most difference?
